Welcome to my new and improved blog!
If you popped over here from Freeing Imperfections (or were redirected), thanks so much for “making the switch.” I’m so excited to launch this and share this with you!
So, why the new blog?
For over a year or so (or maybe even more), I’ve really not been into the name Freeing Imperfections. When I first started blogging, I wrote a lot about my focus on and attempts to overcome perfectionism. My blog quickly evolved to be about all kinds of topics, so the name of my blog became irrelevant and just kind of random to me. I don’t think that title ever really said what my blog was about and was sometimes confusing (and very long to type out!). I also suddenly felt like my design was really juvenile looking but wasn’t interested in redesigning the same site again. I just wanted to start over.
I have always loved blogs with the author’s name in it. I didn’t want a blog title that would limit me to what my content was about, but I wanted something that was a lot more “me” than Freeing Imperfections was. I looked up blog name ideas and came across “in the making.” Paired with my name, I’ve got some alliteration going on and everything. I really like this title more and think it will last me. I truly believe we are always “in the making.” I like the message this title sends but it’s also personal to me because my name is in it.
I’ve also somewhat changed directions lately and plan to keep going down the same path. Something about a new start was appealing to me to give me room to grow. My old blog was labeled as a “healthy living blog” (despite the title not matching that at all) and now I have shifted to being a general lifestyle blog. I think this title says that a lot better than the old one did. I wanted to make the shift to this new space to really acknowledge that change.
Some changes I am going to make include defining and sticking to a set of blog topics, instead of just blogging about anything or trying to blog about “everything.” The topics I’ve decided to focus on are everyday life, food, motherhood, home-y stuff (decor/crafts), fitness, blogging, travel, and fashion. That sounds like “everything,” but I did have to categorize all my old content into the categories too 😉 I hope to have more a focus with what my post topics are from now on though, instead of just creating content for the sake of it.
Two categories I hope to really hit on more than I have in the past are home stuff (decorating, style, crafts, etc.) and fashion – the two topics I think I have blogged about the least! I’m excited for a change of pace and to focus on some things that push me outside my comfort zone. All these categories are also easily found in the sidebar and in the main menu under categories. The categories page is pretty cool too to see even more topics.
I’ve been helping some bloggers working with me at Bee Sweet do the same thing of transferring their blogs to a new domain name, so I got inspired there. I think if I’m going to keep blogging (which I certainly am for now), why not make the experience exactly what I want it to be? I wasn’t in love with some things about Freeing Imperfections, but I can already tell that the vibe of Melissa in the Making is working better for me already.
This blog is my create outlet, my little random internet child. It truly means a lot to me (#crazybloglady), so I wanted to make my blog everything I’ve ever dreamed of. Having a new look and new name is definitely part of that for me.
Social Media Updates
- Melissa in the Making has a new Facebook page, so be sure to “like it” for new post updates. The Facebook page for Freeing Imperfections will be retired in the coming weeks.
- If you followed me on Blog Lovin, they offer a feature to move all followers from an old blog to a new one, so I should still show up in your feed but under this name now. If you’re not following me on Blog Lovin and would like to, my new link for that is here.
- If you like subscription by email, please resubscribe on the sidebar widget.
- My Instagram handle and Twitter handle are staying the same.
Overall, this is a more mature continuation of Freeing Imperfections with new branding that suits where I am in life. For my long-time readers, I hope you like the change. And if you’re new, thank you for visiting! But if you’re not a change person, don’t worry – it’s still just me and all my old posts are still here too! 🙂
Questions for You:
