Happy Memorial Day!
I hope whatever you’re doing today, it includes remembering what this holiday is really about – those who have served and sacrificed everything and left family and loved ones behind for our freedom. There is a very cool remembrance ceremony at a park today that releases lighted lanterns to remember the fallen that we’re hoping to go to later. I hope we can make it.
We had a very busy weekend out sightseeing and eating all the food. My hubby doesn’t have every weekend off, so when he does we really like to make the most of it with family outings.
Saturday, we got some breakfast at this amazing and cute little French country cafe. I got these souffle pancakes, which weren’t really like pancakes at all but more like a fluffy light cake. To die for. I will have to resist the urge to go back to that place every weekend!
We headed to a farmer’s market that we previously tried to go to before but it closes pretty early so we missed it. I am so glad we got to go!
Farmer’s markets are a big thing here. We were told by our realtor that this is one of the good ones. They had all kinds of food from local poke, tons of fresh fruits, and lots of macadamia nut and coffee roasters too. Everything smelled so good!
We bought some hot sauce, mangos, cheese biscuits, and a beef pho dip sandwich. They had lots of plants for cheap too. I want to go back whenever we have a permanent home and get some house plants.

We had some beach time and picked up dinner before hand to eat at the beach. I got the plate dinner above which was tempura shrimp, spam, pot stickers and rice. It looks pretty but wasn’t actually that good.
Sunday started with an Insanity workout. I was really bad about doing Insanity this week, so it felt nice to get some strength in. We spent about two hours at Waikiki together. C just LOVES the beach!
We let her loose and she crawled all over the place, even straight into the ocean. I am kind of amazed that she likes the ocean so much. She doesn’t seem particular at all, whereas I was the kid who had a major freak out when my sock wasn’t on the right way.
I’m glad she doesn’t seem to mind sand or getting ocean water on her face. She also made a little boyfriend at the beach, who was probably 3 or 4 but he was crawling on the sand just like she was, imitating her. It was so cute!
After beach time, we grabbed lunch at Fresh Catch which is the best poke place ever. So poke is raw fish, which sounds super weird. I am not even that big of a sushi person but I can totally do poke.
spicy coconut poke & pipikaula (a cured beef that was kind of weird)
Then we wanted to check out Diamond Head. We didn’t really know what it was, but it’s a giant crater from a volcano (I think). It’s a very dry area and there’s lots of places to hike. We were still in flip flops and not prepared to hike though, so we just saw it and left.
This was the view from across from Diamond Head.
After that, we saw a big mall on the map and oh, my gosh, I am so glad we were there! It is THE biggest mall I’ve ever been to and it was all outdoors. It was four floors of all the fanciest stores ever – Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo, Bulgari, etc. So so fancy! Not that I can afford or even feel comfortable going into stores that have guards 😉 haha.
We saw a Disney store though and had a wonderful first Disney experience with C. As a kid, I was obsessed with the Disney store. I still get kind of giddy about it when I see one. As soon as we went in, a really nice lady greeted C in such a genuine way. My husband went and got a small Nemo stuffed animal and C just LIT UP.
as seen on Snapchat (melsher31), in love with waving Nemo around
We (err, I) went in hoping to get her a small Stitch stuffed animal, so we initially put the Nemo back and OH MAN. I think we were this close to her first actual tantrum. She was so upset! But understandable as we had just waved this cute bright toy in her face and took it away. So we decided we had to go with Nemo and gave it right back. It was a good choice since they only had really big Stitch stuffed animals and no small ones.
She ended up snuggling it the whole afternoon – love!It had been a while since she got a new toy. I think Nemo is definitely a good first Hawaii toy for her 🙂
I hope you guys have a great day off if you have it and a great first week of June (can you believe it?!).
Questions for You:
- What have you been up to this weekend? Doing anything to celebrate today?
- Did you have a favorite childhood stuffed animal? Mine was a Pooh Bear that I still have.
