Hey! I’m back!
As I said last week, I took the weekend off from blogging since my in-laws came up to visit for the weekend. We had such a great time exploring Boston with them!
All my time away from work, blogging, and chores left me with so much to do, though, that I took all of Monday & Tuesday to play catch up. But now that I’m caught up, it feels good to sit down and blog again 🙂
My hubby’s parents got in on Thursday afternoon. We took that night to reconnect, stay in for dinner, and just hang out. Friday was supposed to be our out-on-the-town day, but of course, Boston decided to look like this.
Despite the rainy weather (that seriously lasted almost all day), we were all still in good spirits & saw the town anyway. We did a Duck Boat tour, which I’d been wanting to do for ages. For those of you not around Boston, these boats are everywhere.
They’re WWII replica’s of trucks that can drive right into the water. So we got a great tour of the town (and stayed out of the rain) and we got a ride in the Charles too. So cool! I would highly recommend it.
After that, we went to Sam Adam’s Brewery for a tour. I’d been to Sam’s before but never for a tour. Can’t say their tour was anything amazing, but they give out a lot of free beer. And my in-laws seemed to think it was fun.
Then that night we went to our all-time favorite pizza place in Boston, Ducali Pizzeria, where we take all out-of-town guests. Simply the best!
Definitely not a bad day down out in Boston. I was surprised at how well we kept out of the rain!
Saturday, we spent more time downtown and actually got a chance to walk around. We went to the Boston Public Gardens, saw Cheers, walked a street fair in the North End, ate a ton of good food, and then had dinner at Boston Beer Works.
My favorite spots of that day were the Boston Public Gardens. I’d been here only once before for my 10K in June so I never really got to see it. What a beautiful place!
We also stopped for coffee at The Thinking Cup, which I have been dying to go to for ages since a coffee-loving friend told me about it. My mother-in-law got this ginger-vanilla latte and I got some little macarons. So fancy!
We were hoping to fit some beach time in the weekend somewhere, but somehow we started talking about IKEA. There’s no IKEA within a few hours of where my in-laws live, so as soon as they heard that, we decided to go to IKEA instead of the beach. Maybe that sounds silly, but IKEA is always such a fun experience to me. 🙂
After that, we went to this market called SoWa, which stands for South of Washington (street) in Boston. It’s a farmers market, food truck market, and arts/crafts market all in this one area. It was so neat!
We all got lunch in the food truck zone. I got a hot dog from the super dog truck, which had cranberry relish, barbeque sauce and honey mustard on it. Sounds weird, but it was actually great.
It was so much fun having them out. I feel like we all really got to see authentic Boston, instead of just all the very standard touristy things that you can do in town. It was also especially nice to have some time away from being online and my work. I’m definitely thankful for the mini-vacation!
Now I’m off to run some errands this afternoon & then hopefully have a relaxing night that involves no more catching up!
