Since we found our new place and we’ll have more space, I’ve already been pinning, dreaming, and scheming for what our new place will look like. We truthfully don’t need a lot more furniture or stuff, espeically since closet space is going to be slim in this place. But a few updates are definitely in order.
I also feel like I understand what my decorating “style” is a lot more now than when I first moved into our current apartment. I’m excited to experiment with design a little more and get a few more pieces and accessories with flare and character.
TJ Maxx Finds
To get started, I went to my favorite store everrr TJ Maxx. Or technically Home Goods. But to be honest, I’ve always considered them to be the same store, so I always just call it TJ Maxx even though the home stuff is from Home Goods. Whatever.
I got this rug and two frames that will most likely go in our entry way.
The rug is actually folded in this picture, so it’s twice that size, but still pretty small. I love the pattern! And with the frames, I plan on putting two of our wedding photos since I never framed larger sized wedding pictures.
I also found these random things that are the type of thing you don’t really need, but buy anyway because you “just have to have it.”
Pictured is… an ornate frame, two candles, a bath towel, and some scented sachets for drawers/closets.
I always manage to find candles at TJ’s when I already have about 10 brand new ones at home. So as soon as I came home with yet another candle, my husband just gave me that look like, really? You needed this?
However, this candle is like amazing smelling. He took one whiff and was like, “Uhh, this is mine now.” I actually caught him smelling it again the other day. It’s weird though because it smells nothing like “melon cilantro.” We both think it smells more like a cucumbery watermelon with a little bit of apple. So good!
I undoubtedly found a lot of furniture that I liked too. We need a table or bench to go in the entry way or that room will be empty. I found these two pieces and of course fell in love.
But for $150 (each), I thought the pieces were a little pricey. I’m hoping to find something at Goodwill or on Craig’s List that I can paint/update with the same look for cheaper.
Pre-Moving To Do List
I’m not going to lie – I’m like totally antsy and ready to move into our new place. Since I know we’ll be living there soon anyway, I’m just kind of done with where we are now. I’m so ready for a change!
To keep myself from going insane, I think the best thing for me to do in the mean time is stay on top of all things moving and focus on pre-moving tasks so that when the time does come, we’re ready.
Some things I want to get done before we move are:
- print photos for new frames and some empty frames I already have
- make a Goodwill run to get rid of stuff as well as look for furniture
- get rubbermaid tubs to put excess clothes/shoes/accessories in since they won’t all fit in my new closet
- get a couple more rugs
- go through all my books & donate ones I don’t need/want
- start packing, of course!
In a way, I know that the move will be here before I know it, but at the same time I feel like kid around Christmas time. It can’t get here fast enough!
