Thanks for all the post-race love, guys! I really appreciate all your kind words and support! Maybe I’ll run a marathon more often 😉 Orrrr not.
After the marathon, I took Monday off to fully recover and treat myself. At first, I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to use a day off work for this, but now that I did, I don’t regret it one bit. Best. Day. Ever.
I woke up feeling particularly sore. Walking was really more of a waddle at this point. It actually still is, but I’m gettin’ there. My husband and friend who ran the marathon with me and I started with a late breakfast.
I was hungry, but I had no idea how big these portions were going to be. I ordered a dish called Fit for A Queen, which came with French toast, eggs, sausage, and a scone. #omg
It was one of the best breakfast meals I’ve ever had!
After that, my friend and I went to get massages. I had never had a professional massage before because I never knew if it would be worth it. I think I would like to start getting massages every time after I race, though. It was such a good idea, felt great, and really helped me loosen up and walk better afterward.
Then we had some time to kill before our next meal adventure. I headed downtown to Alex and Ani to get the bangle I said I wanted. So
not so funny funny story – my plan to get this bangle was to get it in Providence right after the race since I was doing the Providence marathon and getting an A&A bangle, which originated basically in Providence. I thought it would be cool. However, I knew I wouldn’t have time or energy to get it after the race so I went the day before. But the store told me that ALL the marathon bangles got pulled from stores are were only available online now? I was so confused because literally about 6 days before, I saw the bangle in store in Boston.
Well, turns out the people in Providence don’t know what’s up. Thankfully I called the Boston store to double-check. I guess all the marathon ones got sent out to Boston for the Boston Marathon, leaving the other stores with none. Not quite the same story… But I got it!
I really really love this one. It’s so symbolic of life, but also reminds me that I did it. My personal “gold medal!”
Then it was getting kind of hot, so we got some Dunkin to go before we went on a walk. Their mint chocolate chip is back – my fave! I may be there like very day now… #crap
And then we took the dogs to the park. I just love Beans’ shadow.
After our quick walk, we went to Mexican of course for Cinco de Mayo. And because Mexican is awesome, duh. We went all out with margs and chips & guac.
And tacos 🙂
I actually got a taco, enchilada, and taquito. So yummy!
I’m really glad I made the most of my day off. It was a good mix of rest but with enough activity that I didn’t get too much more sore. I’m thinking I will do my first post-race workout on Thursday, possibly and keep it really light. Maybe some walking/elliptical and tons of stretching.
Questions for You:
- Is it hard to give yourself rest? I know I need it, but I saw people running yesterday and was like, gah I want to go on a run! #amIinsaneOrWhat
- What’s your go-to low-key workout that you do when you’re not 100%?
