I’m week 2 into training and it’s going well so far. I got off to a slower start because I started “actual” training a week late due to stuff going on with Beans. I was a little nervous about having to ramp up my workouts, but it’s been going well being back in a routine again.
Last week went well, with the exception of missing my long run. I’m not thrilled about this as I already have 2 planned “no long run” weekends throughout training. I was really trying to avoid skipping any more. But – getting my puppy back was totally worth it! 🙂
- Mon: leg strength + 3 mi easy
- Tue: 2 mi interval run + 3 sets of 5 min abs
- Wed: 3 mi easy in the AM with my friend
- Thur: this High-Low HIIT workout & some rowing
- Fri: rest
- Sat: on the road
- Sun: on the road
I’m particularly proud of myself for actually doing speed work for the past 2 weeks. Last week I went to the track and this week I did an interval run. I had scheduled a 30 minute tempo run, but I honestly don’t even know how to do a tempo run. Trying to do speed work after work in the heat is also really hard.
I opted for 2 miles of intervals instead. I ran .25 mi easy, ran .25 hard, and repeated for 2 miles. I was definitely pushing myself but somehow that was easier to me than doing a tempo like 1 mi easy, 1 mi hard, 1 mi recovery or something. I like breaking it up in chunks.
I don’t really care what my speedwork is at this point, I just care that I’m doing some kind of speed work. And since I’ve never done it before, I’m starting to realize how hard it is compared to easy running on my typical runs. It’s definitely pushing me out of my comfort zone for sure!
I also had the opportunity to run with a friend I work with who is training for her first half. I met her in the morning before work to run around this beautiful pond.
It was so refreshing to have a running buddy and to run in the AM before it got so hot. It was my first cool run all summer! We’re hoping to keep up a running date once a week until our races in the fall 🙂
I really fell off the healthy eating bandwagon last week and over the weekend. Healthy meals need to start happening ASAP! Here’s what I’m eating this week:
Monday: orange lime marinated steak, zuchinni parmesan crisps, & cous cous
We had this last night, it was pretty good!
Tuesday: leftovers, probably this pasta
Wednesday: Coconut Crunch chicken & salad
Thursday: chicken sausage, asparagus, & mashed potatoes
Friday: baked eggplant parmesan
It makes me feel good knowing I have a week full of healthy and interesting meals to look forward to.
