Since moving into my new place on Saturday, I’ve constantly felt like I’ve been “on.” We moved in over last weekend. Sunday night was spent sifting through my half-put together home to prepare what I could for work on Monday.
Then at work this week, I started training a new employee to take my current position. I am staying with the company I work for, but am changing positions. This happened kind of suddenly, and I’m really excited about it, but it also couldn’t have happened at a worse time. Moving my apartment and then moving my desk all in the same week!
Each night this week, I’ve come home totally beat from talking all day long, training the new employee. On top of training her, I also still have to do my job but don’t really have time for it as I’m devoted to her. So it’s been pretty stressful at work this week. Then when I come home, all I want to do is keep organizing the new place. By the time I go to bed, I feel like I’ve been the energizer bunny all day.
And even when I do sleep, this place doesn’t really feel like home yet. It feels like I’m sleeping in someone else’s house, so I’m not getting the best sleep yet. My new house also makes a ton of noises at night that I’m not used to: the heating, some random beeping noise in the basement, and creaks here and there. So I’ve been waking up a lot throughout the night.
Last night, I tried to take things a little easier, though. I made Heather’s crock pot chicken tortilla soup for dinner overnight so dinner would already be ready and clean up would be a sinch. (And it was really good, I’d highly recommend it!) Then I set some goals for myself so I wouldn’t get too overwhelmed. I did all my chores first – dishes, laundry, packed my gym bag & lunch – before getting to what I wanted to do. Then I finally tackled the job of organizing my closets.
I mentioned the downsides to our new house before, and closet space was one of them. However, I totally take that back as I really feel the closets are going to work out fine. I got a chance to sit down and decide what was going where, and they turned out much better than I thought.
Here’s the closet in our office/2nd bedroom, which is mine.
And here’s the closet in our bedroom, half mine, half hubby’s.
The fact that I take up 75% of our closet space is ridiculous to me. The fact that hubby doesn’t care at all is very nice, though. 😉
The rest of our house still kind of looks like this though. My office in shambles…
I know it’ll come together with time. I’m thinking I’ll get a grip on the rest of the random stuff this weekend. Just have to be patient!
Side note: I have been pretty much totally absent from the blog-world lately. With work, moving, unpacking, still trying to marathon train on top of all that, blogging is on the bottom of my priorities lately. I miss being here, but I’m also sticking to doing what is best for me right now. I hope for a better routine soon.
