Marathon training for last week went just so-so. I was feeling exhausted by Thursday again and my mileage suffered due to some weird mishaps I had either with the gym or outside.
Tuesday – 2 mi & this legs circuit; got to the gym and realized they were moving the equiptment around, so it took me a while to figure out I had to plug the treadmill in before using it. Wasted my time doing that instead of running more…
Wednesday – 2.15 miles outside. I was feeling brave and wanted to embrace the warmed weather (40’s) after work despite it being a gloomy day.
Since it had warmed up a lot, the snow was melting, which made the trail I picked almost all puddles. And the loop I thought I could do was actually still completely ice. So 5 miles turned into 2.
Thursday – Was having yet another burnt out feeling Thursday and got lazy with running. Only 2 miles that I had to force myself to do.
I did 5 minutes of rowing and 5 minutes of the stair machine to avoid running. And then this abs circuit. Low miles, but it was actually a really good workout.
Friday – rest
Saturday – long run, 11.3ish miles, details below
Sunday – 15 mintues of yoga; not as relaxing as normal because I was stressing over all I wanted to get done that day.
Monday – rest
This was a cutback week, so it wasn’t that long. Had 12 miles on my calendar, but found an 11.2 mile loop and went for that instead.
It was about 50 degrees. I wore shorts and t-shirt for the first time on an outdoor run all year! #winning
Overall, my run was good due to the weather being awesome. And because it was my first long run not wearing the Asics that were killing me. However, I was really slow for some reason and I’m not sure why.
I also tried out a new running belt (can kind of see it above) and ohhh man, that did not work out. It would not stay on me right at all and kept bouncing ALL over the place.
I ended up having to tie it in a knot to make it tight enough around my waist to stop failing all over. Very annoying. Not too sure if I will wear that thing again, although it was a nice break from the armband.
20 Miler Race
All of this “not enough mileage” crap that I keep pulling though is about to change – and fast. Because… in twelve days, I’m running a 20 mile race! Surprise!
My friend offered me an extra bib for The Eastern States 20 Miler when I signed up for the Providence Marathon. I originally declined because I didn’t think I would be ready in time to run 20 miles by the 30th. But I have 19 miles on my schedule that weekend anyway, sooo why not?
The race starts in New Hampshire and goes along the cost right to the border of Massachusetts. It sounds interesting and pretty. I was going to run 19 miles this weekend anyway, but now I get to run 20 miles and get a medal instead. 😉
The only downside is that my birthday is the next day and I’m going to work. That’s going to be a fun day… Either way, I’m excited to a have a little more motivation to kick my butt in gear for training now! Here’s to another week.
Update on shoes from last week: I have been fitted at a running store for shoes before and was never happy with their recommendations. Nothing ever “felt right” to me. I don’t have time to shoe shop again at the moment before the marathon, but I ordered 2 pairs of my old Reebok’s online last week. They will be here Friday 🙂

- Ever done a random distance race? I’ve never heard of a 20-miler. Seems kind of random to me.
