Time for another BirchBox review! I get my boxes in the second half of the month, so I will typically be reviewing last month’s box whenever I post a review.
I was happy with my September box overall, but this month I was very happy. The sample sizes were much better. This post is a little picture-happy to showcase the actual sizes of the samples.
In this month’s box was…
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray
I am all about dry shampoo. I’ve tried many and use it often, so I was more than pleased to see this in my box. I always peek at my box before it arrives, so when I saw I was getting this I really wondered about the sample size.
I am very pleased with the size of this little guy! It smells fantastic. I can’t quite put my finger on what it smells like, but it’s great. It’s kind of perfume-y though, and I noticed the scent on me even an hour later. Not bad a bad thing for smelly hair I haven’t washed in 4 days 😉
Would I buy this stuff? Well, it’s $42 for the full size spray. So probably not. But I can see this stuff lasting a long time so it might be one of those things I consider buying because it’s worth it for how long it lasts.
They say this is not a dry shampoo but a texturizing spray. It definitely provides volume, but it just seems like a dry shampoo to me. I don’t think it deserves a different category.
Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant
Love me a good microderm scrub. I was also impressed with this sample size. Since this isn’t something to be used more than once every few days (I could even go once a week on something like this), this will last a while.
It has a lovely citrus-lemon scent that was very refreshing. It did not leave my skin red or irritated at all. The scrub was very fine and gentle but effective. A solid microderm for sure.
Would I buy the full size of this for $78? Uhhh, no. I do wish there was a way to tell BirchBox to only send you products under a certain dollar amount. I did like this stuff, but I don’t want to be tempted to buy any beauty product for almost $80 right now, thank you!
EXO Supply Co. Pure Remover Wipes
When I peeked in my box before arrival, this was very intriguing to me. They are natural nail polish remover wipes that use essential oils as a base.
When I got these, I was due to change my toe nail polish so I took to that right away. These did not work well for me at all. Since they use essential oils, it was, well, super oily. I didn’t like that I had to wash my feet after using these. I had hot pink polish on, which these wipes smeared all over me. I had to go over my toes with regular acetone to get all the color off in the end. These didn’t work and seemed messy. I would not buy, but I do like that BB is offering natural products.
Benefit They’re Real! Lengthening Mascara
I have had my eye on this mascara (pun intended) for a while now. I was actually given the choice between this sample and others before the box arrived. When I saw I could choose this, I was all over it. Love that you get a choice sometimes!
This was just so-so, though. For lengthening, they do great. For volume and fullness, more was to be desired. It’s also JET black, which I’m not a big fan of. I’ll use this sample but I probably wouldn’t buy it.
Acure Organics Cell Stimulating Facial Mask
Another natural product! And one that calls me to sit still and in peace while I get a beauty treatment? This is why I signed up for BB – to have some much needed me time while taking care of myself 🙂
I love that the instructions for this say: “apply all over face until you look like a green sea monster.” Company’s with a sense of humor are awesome. And this stuff is green!
Again, also very pleased with the size of this sample. It left my skin feeling so clean. It’s only $12 for the full size. I’d definitely consider buying it.
This box was pretty much what I was hoping BB would be – a refreshing way to try new products in decent sized samples, creating a fun way for me to treat myself through pampering. I am okay with the fact that I won’t buy everything or am not in love with everything I try. That’s not why I signed up for BB.
At this point, I can see myself doing BB for about six months total, but if I’m not bored with it by then, I don’t see the harm in continuing. I love that I can try high end products that I would otherwise never even look at due to price.

Questions for You:
- Are you a face mask person? I want to be but never make time for it.
- What do you want out of mascara? Length or volume or both?
