Today I’m excited to talk about a topic that comes up every winter: how to beat the dryness!
With winter in full swing in the North East, staying hydrated and moisturized is high on my priorities these days. Although it doesn’t get as dry here as it did when I lived in Colorado, I still take all the necessary precautions to keep my skin looking and feeling its best all year. Check out my favorite go-to beauty products below.
A good daily moisturizer is essential for locking moisture into dry skin. My skin is naturally pretty dry. I have to put lotion on all over every day to keep it “normal,” and even then it seems dry at times. Aveeno’s Daily Moisturizing Lotion is a great year-round moisturizer for me – not too thick, not too thin. Best part is that it’s all natural.
However, since my skin is pretty dry, I use Bath & Body Works True Blue Spa Lay It On Thick (in Vanilla Almond) about once a week as an extra skin conditioner. It’s quite oily since it has Macadamia nut oil and shea butter, but after a bath, this stuff locks in the moisture for days and it smells like heaven too.
A body scrub is not just for summer before tanning or just for your feet. I find that when I scrub all over once a week, my skin is softer and looks more even. I use Tree Hut’s Shea Sugar Scrub (in Coconut Lime). It’s scrubby enough to remove dead skin but not so rough that I get irritated. This is also great for feet, hands (for a mani), and it also smells fantastic.
I LOVE hand creams. I probably own about 6 that I somehow use on a frequent basis. My two favorite though are both from B&BW’s True Blue Spa line. The first is Look Ma New Hands, super softening paraffin hand lotion. This cream is loaded with paraffin wax, making it creamy and rich. It has a slight citrus smell that I’m not crazy about, but the results from this cream are amazing. When I put it on at night, I wake up with really soft hands. No more dry spots!
The second cream is Shea Cashmere & Silk hand cream. This cream is lighter than the first, so I prefer it for daily wear. This stuff is amazing, making my hands feel like they’re covered in silky butter or something. SO SMOOTH. And the smell is DIVINE. Like ammaretto. Mmm!
Baths are perfect in winter to me because they 1) warm me up, 2) keep my skin soft when I use a bath bomb, and 3) give me a way to “escape” from chilly winter. I recently got addicted to Lush bath bombs since the hubs got me some for Christmas two years ago. These bombs are THE BOMB (hahaha)!
Seriously, though – they are. They’re all natural, ethically made, HUGE, and they provide AH-mazing results. The bombs are loaded with oils and natural moisturizers like aloe vera and shea.
After using one of these and then some of that super rich body cream and letting it soak in overnight, my skin is totally renewed and soft again. This really should be my weekly ritual, but currently I do this about every two weeks.
I pretty much love anything by Burt’s Bees. Their ever-famous chapstick and cuticle cream is no exception. I’ve tried a lot of different chapsticks and I find that Burt’s is the best. The minty-tingly feeling is refreshing even in the cold. It’s the only thing that truly restores moisture to my lips.
I’m also a big fan of the Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. To get mani-ready hands, this cream is a must for me. I usually put it on nightly all over my nail beds. Although it’s meant for cuticles, I’ve also used this on my hands and face as well if I get any dry spots. It seems to do the trick.
Taking care of my skin is just one way that I feel ready for the day and good about myself. By using all of these products as a part of my daily or weekly routine, my skin stays hydrated and soft. What’s not to like?!
Questions for you:
- Do you use any of these products? If so, what do you think of them?
- What are your favorite products for keeping your skin soft in the winter?
