I literally had no idea what to call this post, so you get a cheesy title today. I haven’t update y’all in forever on what’s going on with our move. And we move at the end of NEXT WEEK! This post may or may not be delivered in completely random, sporadic order. Enjoy.
To start with the details, next week is going to be quite a hoedown. Gotta put my big girl cow boy boots on and suck it up big time. We have movers coming today to pick things up to put in storage. There are some things we just don’t want in Hawaii but want for later and will be stored here in Texas. Then all next week is movers. We are getting our whole house packed up Monday and Tuesday (I think? I honestly can’t keep it straight). Then Friday some basic things are being shipped earlier since the main bulk of our house stuff will likely take two to three months to arrive.
So in that shipment next Friday will be things like camping chairs, an air mattress, extra toys/clothes/stuff for Claire, big items like her high chair/other stroller, some dishes, towels, pots/pans, my beloved blender, etc. Hopefully this stuff only takes about a month to arrive so if/when we get a house we’ll be able to live!
It’s really hitting home to me this week that I won’t be sleeping in this bed for a lonnnng time
Once we get there, we’ll be in a hotel. We were so bad about this and put off finding a hotel until this week. Oops! But we are staying in a very nice hotel in Waikiki area, just a half mile from the beach! We’ll hopefully stay there for 2-3 weeks and then move into something a little more permanent like an extended stay hotel or furnished apartment type of place. And then we’ll stay in that until we either find a house to buy and buy it or realize buying isn’t going to work out and rent a place.
And that process could take months.
I’m setting myself up to believe it’ll take a long time because one – the housing market is crazy and houses are snatched up very quick, and two – I don’t want to move there thinking we’ll be getting all settled in no time when in reality is really is going to be a long process.
To say I’m thrilled about all this is definitely not true. But it’s Hawaii and we won’t actually have a lot of stuff to move around in this whole time since we’ll only have a few suit cases of stuff for quite a while. That’s both liberating and scary. I just know I’m going to forget something I really want/need.
Our car is being shipped so we have to wait on that, also expected to be about a months time. We’re actually going to rent a car for just a few days and hope to buy a temporary car in the time being because car rentals are nuts there, it being such a travel destination.
It is 100% hard to believe that I will just show up in Hawaii. And not leave. For a while. Because I live there. Despite all the craziness of this move, I am more than looking forward to this. I have been having fun the past week picking out what clothes I am going to bring and what items I actually want with me for this transition.
I recently read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up so it’s been interesting to choose the “joyful” items over things that will just weigh me down and not be that useful. Stay tuned next week. I’ll be sharing my Hawaii essentials for both Claire and I as I’ve updated of both our wardrobes for Hawaii 🙂
After next week, I am putting no expectations on myself to blog or anything since we’ll be in such transition. But I’m definitely excited to update you guys once we get there. And since we’ll only have the one rental or car that we hope to buy, my husband has to use that to get to work and I’ll be stuck in a hotel all day. So… I’ll probably be online quite a bit since there won’t be much else to do. But again, this is such a big life shift, I’m not expecting to be checking in on here all the time
if when life is crazy.
This adventure is definitely going to be marked by imperfection, stresses, mishaps, and probably some tears (seriously wish me luck on this long flight with a baby – I’ve already cried about it!). But I know a beautiful ocean and calm breezes are waiting for me. And a nice Hawaiian with a lei when I get off the plane. They still do that, right? 😉
Questions for You:
- When is the last time you moved?
- How do you deal with stress better lately?
