I’m really excited to share my thoughts on the Mary Kay products I’ve been using since I started my Mary Kay business. Although I would love to review all the products I’ve been playing with lately, I’m just going to review the make up, for the sake of time. I’ll review skin care and other fun products soon.
First, let’s get thing straight. I am a straight-up mascara junkie. If there’s been a new mascara on the market, I’ve basically tried it. I freaking love the stuff. See?
A whole drawer full? No big deal…
My current mascara love is that red one up above, Maybelline One By One. But, I have to say that Mary Kay definitely blows that out of the water. I’ve known people who have sworn by Mary Kay mascara, and I never knew why until now. I had just never really tried it, either.
The newest mascara by Mary Kay is called Lash Love. It comes in a regular and then a lengthening one that is made to help lashes grow. I got a regular one, and it’s total love. Maybe that’s why they called it Lash Love…
I personally love plastic brushes over bristled ones. I get such better definition out of those kind of brushes. This specific brush really helps separate lashes without clumping them. Maybe my results don’t seem amazing, but trust me – my eyelashes are pathetic without mascara. I love my results!
Eye shadow, Blush & Foundation
Mary Kay’s color cosmetics are great for two reasons: they provide true color comparable with MAC or other high end makeup while also being extremely affordable. I have honestly only ever used MAC or high-end eye shadow when I got it for free. I cannot justify spending a lot on eye shadow for some reason. Mary Kay eye shadow is only $6.50 versus MAC, which is more than twice that at $15.
That being said, I’ve actually used a really awesome MK eye shadow for years called granite. It’s this awesome shimmery grey color that I absolutely love. I’ve never been able to find another shadow like it.
With my recent order, I got a whole set of eye shadow specific to blue eyes. This color combo really makes my eyes pop. They have it for every eye color too.
I really like the blush they sent me too, but whoa. A little goes a long way! The firs time I put it on, I literally looked like a clown. But I barely put any on! I typically have to get quite a bit of blush on my brush to get the desired look. Not with this blush, though. Done right with just a little of it, it looks pretty and fresh.
I’ve also already been using MK foundation for quite a while. There’s actually a lot of different foundation options in Mary Kay, and I have three. I use matte wear full coverage foundation (which I think is now called medium coverage?) for when I need a ton of coverage. I have Timewise Luminous Wear foundation, and mineral powder foundation. Typically, I use the Luminous Wear which has always been perfect for my dry skin. It moisturizes while I wear it and gives me a dewy, fresh look. In the summer, it’s harder for me to wear because of heat/humidity, so that’s when I swtich to the powder foundation or use a combination of the two.
Mary Kay foundation is honestly the only foundation I can use that doesn’t make me break out. I’ve had amazing results with other brands only to find that I break out hours later. Not cool. Mary Kay seems very gentle and never irritates my skin. I also have very very dry skin sometimes, and so wearing foundation becomes a problem. The Luminous Wear is great for my dry skin without magnifying how dry it can be. But now that I use the Timewise skin care line, my skin isn’t dry anyway… More on that later.
Here’s my final look.
Nothing dramatic. Clean, fresh, and simple. Exactly what I was going for!
Lip Gloss & Lipstick
Except that I forgot to put on my lipstick!
Okay, I will admit that actual lipstick has never been my thing. Raise your hand if you think lipstick is for old ladies. *raises hand* I totally thought this until I got this nifty lipstick & lipgloss.
These lip products are limited edition for this year, Mary Kay’s 50th year in business! They’re gold because 50 is the golden birthday.
Not only is the swirliness super cool and fun, they’re beautiful! My favorite way to wear these is together, lipstick first, lip gloss second. The gloss is such a neat combination of the pink and gold. They’re both very creamy and last a long time without being sticky. Unfortunately, my camera just didn’t capture the gorgeousness that is these lip products, so you’ll just have to believe me that they’re good. 😉
Hope you guys enjoyed this review! If you have any questions about Mary Kay products or the business at all, feel free to contact me any time. I wish I could cover so much more about Mary Kay. One post at a time, I suppose!
