How did you make it through the first week of 2017? This week was actually super weird for me and I was in a funk for about half of it. Something about thinking about the year ahead and goals had me all anxious and kind of down, oddly enough. And our schedule was completely off post-holiday and traveling, so I felt like I was dragging my feet trying to return to normal.
I’m happy it’s Friday and that my New Year’s funk seemed to have lifted as of yesterday. I wanted to take today to focus on the positives right now, so here’s what I’ve been loving lately.
Claire’s New Room
In effort to prepare for the new baby, we are moving Claire out of her room. I know a lot of people seem to want to keep them in their crib if they aren’t having issues with it (she is not), but I just can’t justify having two cribs. Claire will be two when the baby gets here, so I feel keeping her in the crib any longer would be pushing it anyway and a waste of money to have two.
Anyway, we put together her room this week and I am in LOVE!
When I originally did her nursery, I intended for there to be a lot more mint green but it kind of never happened. I may have gone a little overboard with the mint this time around, but it’s such a popular color right now that I was able to find all kinds of stuff that matched!
She has a twin mattress on the floor with a teepee over it. The teepee is actually a lot bigger over the bed than I realized, but I still like it. She has a small dresser for books and toys and a Pottery Barn Kids Anywhere chair that we got her for Christmas.
We still need a dresser and to hang stuff on the walls. We’re debating painting, but I kind of like it white to contrast all the bright colors. When it’s all finished, I’ll share a room reveal with more pictures.
This Pineapple Sweater
I got this on the last day we were visiting the Big Island in Kona. I saw it and of course fell in love.
My friend Chloe and I both got one. It’s so comfy, perfect to wear to the beach as a cover up (in “winter” anyway), and stretchy enough to wear pregnant 🙂 Win!
Feeling Motivated to Tackle Life
The past few months had just been overwhelming for me. Between my hubby’s work schedule being kind of nuts toward the end of the year, being pregnant, Claire being an insane toddler, and still adjusting to Hawaii and our new house, the latter part of 2016 was rough on me, even though it was good for a lot of reasons too. The new year has sparked in me a feeling of “I can do it” and extra energy to actually take control of things.
Things like meal planning, really utilizing my planner, being inspired to blog again, keeping the house clean, etc. have all been going on for me this week. It’s been a nice change of pace to have this kind of new energy, although I was a little overwhelmed by the desire to “do” this week and struggled with feeling like no amount of work was enough. I know I just have to take it one day at a time. I’ll be sharing my organization goals for 2017 next week to really plan out what it is I want to do.
“Fancy” but cheap coffee drinks
So these are
probably horrible for you and full of sugar, but I’ve been majorly craving stuff like Starbucks daily but just can’t go there with the money right now (or actually make it to a Starbucks daily lol).
For a substitute, I got this French Vanilla Cappuccino mix and this decaf Chai tea latte. I’ve been loving the decaf Chai at night for a nice tea beverage in the evenings when I do my devotional in bed.
I am trying to limit sweets right now (because I had all the cookies in December!), but these are just so nice to have on hand for a super quick drink without even turning on the coffee pot.
A Great Beach Day
My husband had Wednesday off and said he really wanted a family beach day. It was a gorgeous day!
Even though Hawaii doesn’t have winter like other places, the past few times I had been to the beach on Oahu, it was just not “beach weather” and was kind of crummy (poor me, I know lol). So it was really nice to have a day that was perfect for beaching. I was in a really bad mood that morning because Claire scribbled all over the cover of my new Bible, so it was definitely refreshing to get out of the house and forget about life’s troubles for a moment.
Having Less than 3 Months of Pregnancy Left!
It sounds seriously crazy to even type that. This pregnancy has flown by. Here I am yesterday in my almost-third trimester uniform at 27 weeks.
I got this dress on clearance at Target the other day after eyeing it for MONTHS (seriously why does it take years for the things you want to go on sale at Target!). It is so comfy and I expect to wear it as often as I like because pants are totally overrated at this point.
I haven’t shared anything about this pregnancy really since my first trimester update, but things have been good. My symptoms are more intense this time around but I feel like I don’t have the time to pay attention to them as much, so they seem less dramatic. Overall, still feeling pretty good and am definitely more able to stay active this go around, which I am so crazy-thankful for. I’ll be sharing more deets on how the second trimester went next week 🙂
Hope ya’ll have a great weekend!
