I don’t normally post quite this late, but today was jam packed! I’ve also really been trying to give myself a break lately. If I don’t have a post planned, I’m trying to stop scrambling and rushing to get one posted.
I’d much rather just wait until I have the time to get a decent post out than get something published just to get it published. So I’m doing just that!
Today started bright and early with a berry sunrise smoothie. It’s so refreshing to have a smoothie first thing in the morning, especially a fruity citrusy one.
Pure deliciousness right there.
I had to get out the door fast in order to run before it got really hot. My weather app said it was going to get to 90 today!
So, backtrack a little – I don’t have a running watch or anything. I run “naked” with no watch of any kind, no phone, and not even my iPod anymore. I’d tried Run Keeper on my phone in the past, but the GPS signal just never worked, and so it didn’t track anything. I decided to give Nike+ a try the other day, and it finally worked!
Except… I couldn’t believe what it told me. It said my normal route was a whole half a mile longer than I had calculated through Run Keeper before. Weird… Annnd it said I was running an 8:30 mile pace. Also weird, as I didn’t even run my last 5K quite that fast! I was quite skeptical.
So back to this morning – I went to a nearby track to calibrate the Nike+ app.
I ran a mile at an easy pace, and then another mile with 100m sprints thrown in on every lap. Turns out, the app was off by a little. But not by much! The first mile was off by 0.05 miles, and the second was off by 0.07. So, not a huge difference, but definitely enough to throw off my actual pace & mileage.
Turns out my casual pace is about 9:00, which is still way faster than I had been estimating before. I would usually just look at my phone before I started running, leave it in my car, and then look at it when I stopped. I was estimating anywhere from a 10:30-12:30 pace usually, so I’ve always felt wicked slow. But I’m not!
So now I really see the importance of having something to track my runs with. I ordered a cheap-o arm band so I can start using Nike+ all the time.
I’m actually really excited about this because I always thought I’d have to break down and buy an expensive watch in order to track my runs. But with a free app and an arm band – I have everything I need! 🙂
Life Without Hubby
So, I think I have officially hit the point of missing my husband dearly. I mentioned a while back that he is gone for 2 weeks for a school study abroad trip in China. It’s actually 16 days, I realized… And yes, I am getting a little lonely.
I have been eating cereal for dinner and taking over the whole bed without a care. I’ve also been really busy with Mary Kay and my social life, so I think I’ve just kind of not had time to really let his absense set in. And undoubtedly, Beans has kept me plenty of company.
I was looking through some photos on my phone today, and saw one of my favorites from about two years ago when we had just been dating a few months. And then I was like, “Wow. I miss that face.”
I can do it, though. Only 9 more days until I get to see that smiling face 🙂
