We moved into our Hawaii home a month ago. It is so far from picture ready which is why I’ve procrastinated on sharing much about the place, but I wanted to share few sneak peek of our new home to show you what I’m working with.
I shared some of my decorating inspiration here, but the overall style I’m going for with this place is neutrals (grey, beige, sea foam, white), lots of wood elements, and general coastal decor (without getting too anchor-and-rope cliche). I want our space to be family-friendly, so most of what I’m going for isn’t elegant or expensive. I want a casual, comforting beachy vibe going on.
Eventually my goal is to showcase each room and share the decorating process, where things are from, etc. once I have a finished product. Shopping for furniture in Hawaii has been really tough though, so it may take me a while.
I’ve already had a lot of fun with this area.
I got the pineapple welcome print on a day trip to the North Shore a while back. I found the bench at TJ Maxx. At first I wasn’t sure about it but it literally fits like it was made for this space. I fell in love with it as soon as I got it home and put it there.
This gallery wall is also near the entryway sort of. I framed some of our recent family photos on the beach. Love!
The dining room isn’t a formal one, which I am so grateful for. Our dining and living room is just one big combined room, so I definitely wanted to keep our dining casual. Plus, I have a one year old throwing food in there, so it’s got to be family-friendly 😉
I’ve had the most fun with this so far and it feels most complete to me out of anywhere in the house. I simply updated our tablecloth, place mats, and got that wood bin at Ross to hold napkins.
I don’t even want to show you guys this because it looks so bad, but this is our living room right now.
My couches are covered in old sheets because they are fake leather and falling apart. We ordered a sectional in grey but it won’t be here for another three months! This room will most likely see no change until the couch arrives.
My favorite room of the house!
So far, the kitchen really doesn’t need much of anything. Eventually I want to add a back splash but that will be a while from now.
We need something to go in the space across from the stove.
I want to put a coffee bar here with a buffet table possibly and shelving above it.
The master is beach themed with ocean colors.
I still need to hang that picture sitting on the toilet too 😉
This is another room I plan to completely redo.
We are planning on making our own upholstered headboard in a neutral color with nail head trim. I have been on the hunt for white-ish nightstands since we got here. I may be close to ordering these from Pier 1, but I don’t love that they’re not true white.
I am also totally torn about our bedding. This bedding is only a year and half old and has held up really well. I didn’t pick it out though and it’s never truly felt like what I wanted. Although it’s already in coastal colors and would match if I went with a more blue route instead of the light sea foam I tend to go for. I envisioned white sheets, a white quilt, and sea foam sheets and then to paint the walls a very light sea foam. Not sure what we’ll end up doing right now.
Her room is complete, minus hanging things on the walls. It’s smaller than her old nursery but all her furniture still fits.
We originally had the crib and dresser switched, but the light switch can be reached from the crib, so you can image how nap time was going with a fun switch to play with! We had to move it but it still works.
We also have two other bedrooms, one that is my sister-in-laws right now and one that is totally full of stuff we still have to organize. Eventually Claire’s room will stay a nursery for another baby and Claire will take the junk room. There’s another bathroom and a laundry room downstairs too.
For those of you that are curious, we are not really near the beach at all actually. Thankfully it’s an island and there are beaches everywhere though!
We are really enjoying the new home. It’s probably always going to be a work in progress, but I’m pleased with how things have come along so far.
