The hubby and I are leaving on a trip for the weekend to NYC this afternoon. We’ve never been, and I couldn’t be more excited!
Since I’ve been pretty seeeerious the last few days, I wanted to keep today’s post a little more upbeat. Here’s an update on what’s been going on with my faith life recently.
1. Study in Matthew.
Since I got my devotional Bible, I have gone through the entire Old Testament in my devos. The devos typically have me read anywhere from a few lines to a whole chapter of scripture. So I haven’t read even close to the whole Old Testament, but I’ve read through a lot of bits & pieces. When I reached the end of the Old Testament the other day, the New Testament was just calling me to read it in full – or at least read the 4 gospels in full.
So I’ve started doing just that. The hubs & I are reading Matthew together. My goal right now is to read 2 chapters a day with the hope of being done with the book by the end of March. It’s really nice to have some fresh scripture and take a break from my devotionals for now.
2. Blog Blessings.
My “ask” this year is for God to provide me with a job, hopefully in writing. After praying into this for a while, I started to feel like maybe my blog may end up being the answer to this prayer. I don’t know this for sure, but there have been many answers to prayer involving my blog’s growth lately that affirm that this is the right path for me.
Some answers to prayer & awesome things lately are…
- Becoming a Sweat Pink Ambassador
- Joining the Villiage Green Network
- Getting my blog tips post featured on the SITS Girls
- Writing my first sponsored post
All of these things are opportunities that I was really hoping for. I’ve been praying for the Lord to open doors for my blog to grow, reach more people, and to eventually become a paying gig. All of these things answer that and so much more! I am literally blown away at how much my blog has grown this year alone. Thank you, God!
3. Learning to Love.
I mentioned it a little bit in this post, but reading The Love Dare is going really well. I was honestly a little scared to start reading this book, but every day I see what a blessing it is.
The first part of the book really focused on practical ways to show your spouse love, but so far, the second half of the book is really focused on how your individual relationship with Jesus is a huge factor and foundation in your ability to love and your marriage. In a way, I feel like I am learning so much about God all over again, as if I am just meeting Him for the first time. Learning about His love for me has just hit me so hard lately, and I’m amazed by it.
4. Daily Trust.
As always, I keep having to revisit my struggle with worry, anxiety, and over-working myself. All of these things drive me away from God and cause distrust. Every day is a constant battle between having a worried, hurried, rushed, and often defeating day or having a day where I choose to acknowledge God over my to-do list and listen to His lead over my own.
It’s not easy. I don’t do this perfectly or even well sometimes. What I am learning, though, is that no matter how much I may “screw up” or neglect my faith, He is there waiting to recieve me, love me, and guide me. Always. At the end of a busy day where I feel exhausted and like I didn’t even accomplish anything, God gently reminds me that my accomplishing is not the most important thing. Jesus has accomplished for me, therefore I can rest easy.
Something that struck me and encouraged me that I read in Matthew yesterday is in the story of Jesus healing a paralytic & a blind man. Before healing the blind man, Jesus says to him, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” (9:28).
This struck me because lately I feel like I forget that: that Jesus is able. He is 100% qualified to guide me, lead me where I long to go, grant me peace, and take away my anxiety & worry. Of course, in my heart, I believe He can do this. My head tends to think otherwise at times. If I just believe!
Some of you mentioned last week that you’d be interested in linking up for Faith in My Friday. Here is a link up for any of you who wrote a post.
There’s a quickie snapshot of what’s going on with me and Jesus lately. Now I’m headed to the Big Apple! Have a great weekend 🙂
