Now that I’m fully on my own and trying to get in the swing of things as a mom of two, I thought I’d share what my days look like now. I also love looking back on these posts months or years from now to see how much things change.
This was my day yesterday, Monday May 8th, 2017. All pics are from my cell phone, which takes the universes blurriest pics no matter what. So sorry about that 😉
4:18 am – Wake up to nurse Stella for the second time during the night. I try to put her back down in her crib (where she sleeps now) but she isn’t having it.
4:48 am – Bring Stella into bed with me so we can try to sleep.
7 ish am – My husband wakes me up to tell me he put Claire back to bed (had no idea she even got up?!) and that he’s leaving for work. So thankful he dealt with C so I could stay in bed a little longer.
7:20 am – Hear Claire get up so I go get her. I leave Stella in bed.
We have a nice quiet breakfast time together since Stella is sleeping. It’s so nice to do something with just one child these days as it’s rare. I make her raisin toast and give her a yogurt and chocolate milk.
I have coffee, raisin toast, & chocolate protein overnight oats (and a side of flamingo apparently).
8:15 am – I get Claire set up on the couch with a show on her tablet, nurse & change Stella, set Stella in the Rock n Play outside the bathroom and take the world’s quickest shower. I pump after my shower, get dressed, and finish my coffee.
Actually being ready for the day with two kiddos is a must for me. I might just be in a pajama shirt and yoga pants but I showered!
8:25 am – We leave the house. We are headed to a playgroup at a YMCA that Claire loves. Then I have PT afterward. It’s best for us to get out and do things early on. Lots of activity in the morning (and not being home) is good for Claire before nap time.
I feel like a rock star for leaving the house on time and all of us in one piece. We have a magically quiet car ride to the YMCA.
8:57 am – Get to the YMCA only to realize no one is there. The playgroup doesn’t start until 9:30 and I just had the time wrong/have mom brain. Claire wants a snack but I don’t have much so we head to a Starbucks close by and get a snack.
I get a Lemonade Passionfruit refresher (so good!) and Claire gets some Moon Cheese. So weird but oddly good.
9:25 am – We head back to the YMCA and get checked in. It’s an hour and half of free play, they always have a craft, and then a snack and circle time with some songs at the end.
Claire loving one of the dance times
She has a great time at this and it’s super easy for me to bring Stella as well and just sit on the floor and nurse her and talk to other moms.
We head out right at 11 so I can make my PT appointment. I down a Lara Bar on the way in the car.
11:25 am – Arrive at PT place. I am getting PT and chiropractic care like I was during my pregnancy, but now it’s for my upper back which has been really hurting and having spasms lately. Probably from nursing and sleeping all weird when we cosleep sometimes. I also found out I still have scoliosis. I had this when I was younger but thought I outgrew it. Apparently not!
The practice actually has a day care, which is amazing & included in the cost of care (not additional!). Going here feels like a day spa to me because I get to drop the girls off, get massaged, do some exercises and get an adjustment. I love it. I leave feeling a lot better than when I came in!
1:00 pm – Pick up the girls. Claire is all smiles still. The ladies who work there are super sweet. Stella is actually up. They said she just ate a bottle but slept most the time.
We get to the car, I get Claire in her car seat, nurse Stella and then leave.
It’s pouring rain and I get stuck in major traffic on the way home due to a road closure for road work that’s taking forever to finish.
2:00 pm – Get home. Claire fell asleep in the car, so I rush her to her bed and keep her napping. Stella is also asleep so I leave her in the car seat for a bit while I make lunch.
I eat a weird mix of leftovers – coffee from this morning, grilled chicken with BBQ sauce, and spaghetti.
Stella stirs a little so I nurse her and then set her up in the swing. I start setting up a backdrop for a photo session that I have in my house. A few people do monthly baby photos with me in my make shift “studio.”
4:15 pm – Claire wakes up from her nap (this is so late for her!), I get her on the couch watching a movie because my photo clients are about to arrive. They arrive and I shoot a super cute 6 month old little boy and chat with his mom for a while.
I tidy up, play with Claire some, & bring up the laundry.
6:00 pm – My hubby gets home. We make dinner right away. We had some leftovers and ham & cheese paninis. He bathes Claire and puts her down. I clean up the kitchen, nurse Stella and then we chat for a bit.
7-9 pm – I needed to work on editing some photos so I do that, chat with friends on Facebook, and just hang out for the night. I nurse Stella another time and put her down in her crib and we head to bed right at 9.
And that was our day! I can’t say if this is typical or not, but so far if we get out early and make it home in time for naps, all seems to go well! I’m glad I’ve been able to do the mom thing on my own with two kids fairly easily. I’m sure it’ll all change soon or have it’s new challenges as they both change though.
