Hey guys! Happy Friday!
Yesterday I took a little siesta from blog land and it felt pretty good. Yesterday was a long day at work, and actually this whole week has felt pretty long. But I’m happy to report that I’ve been consistent with spending time with the Lord first and then working out every day this week.
Consistency feels so good, and I totally give the Lord credit for that. Truth is, I’ve been waking up excited and ready to spend some time with Him first. I’ve been working my way through the book of Revelation this week, and that’s been really interesting so far. It’s a very different book of the Bible than most of what I’ve read.
I’m definitely feeling in better spirits this week than I did a few weeks prior. And actually, yesterday I realized I have been working at my new job for a month now. It’s crazy how time flies! I’d say that I think my adjustment period is probably ending. Now I just have to keep up the consistency I’ve started!
Crown of Beauty Magazine
Last week, Livy, the editor of the Crown of Beauty Magazine asked me if I’d like to check out their newest beauty issue of their e-magazine. It’s a magazine written for young women with the aim of supporting a Godly view of how to live life.
Being a girl who was very confused and sadly mislead by typical “women’s magazines” when I was younger, I can only wish that this magazine or something like it was made available to me then. The magazine addresses the issues we face as women today – wanting to fit in, look cute, be liked, have relationships – but also doing that in an appropriate, Godly, and pure way.
The magazine promotes healthy body image, modest but fashionable outfits and makeup, opinion articles on current events & issues from a Godly perspective, tons of scripture, and so much more. It also addresses the issues with current society today, countering the lies and misconceptions that girls are being told everyday – that they are not beautiful, that they need to be sexy to be liked, etc. and instead relying on the truth of God’s word.
The Beauty Issue is 70 pages, so it’s like a real magazine. I am very impressed with the quality and attention to detail as well as the creative approach in design and topic.
My favorite article from The Beauty Issue is one titled “I Survived the Pinterest Apocalypse.” It was a parody of how Pinterest can so easily suck us in to think that we are being product and making our lives better, when in reality it’s just a time-suck that makes us unhappy. Very funny, but also very truthful that I’m sure every Pinterest user can relate to.
I was also able to check out a separate fashion guide that comes with the magazine. This isn’t just a typical how-to-put-outfits together fashion guide, although their website does offer great fashion advice like that. This was fashion advice from such an interesting perspective that girls of any age can use – myself included.
Most of the fashion issue was concerned with how to dress cute in a modern world without attracting the wrong kind of attention. Some of the articles included information on how men view women and how sometimes (more often than not) what we’re wearing is not actually cute but distracting and more revealing than we realize.
There’s plenty of wayward advice floating around, but the truth that rings throughout the Crown of Beauty mag is golden. I know it’s already going to be a blessing to girls everywhere!
