Going into motherhood the second time is both equal parts much easier (been there, done that!) and more scary (I know how much sleep I won’t be getting).
On that note, I wanted to share my must-have baby products as a second time mom. I didn’t update too much as we saved almost everything from the first time around. And having another baby of the same gender meant less to buy in general too. But I did stock up on some new-to-me items or really nailed down what items I care to invest in now that I’ve BTDT.
Baby Cubby was generous enough to provide us with some beautiful new products from above. They are a high quality one stop shop baby boutique that offers everything from strollers to bottles.
Y’all already know how much I love our dock if you read my review of it from a few weeks ago. Seriously, where was this thing with my first baby?!
Stella sleeps in it every night like an angel! She does still get up throughout the night sometimes but for the most part, she sleeps through and it’s awesome. I also love having an easily portable baby device during the day that isn’t plastic and cumbersome.
High Quality Muslin Swaddle Blankets
Y’all know I just adore this pineapple swaddle. But besides the cute print, it’s incredibly soft. Soft swaddles are a must have for me. I’ve used cheaper muslin swaddles, but if they aren’t bamboo they’re not nearly as soft and don’t hold up well over time.
This Little Unicorn Single Bamboo Deluxe Muslin Swaddle is soft and multi functional from swaddling to covering while nursing.
The Ollie Swaddle
The swaddle above with the muslin blanket was not done by me. My husband is the swaddle master in this house. While I have gotten a lot better at swaddling this time around, having an easy swaddle option (aka: velcro!) is a must-have for me. Especially with having a toddler around, I don’t have time to get a perfect swaddle most days.
I don’t use this one all the time, but when Stella is really fussy in the afternoons, this usually calms her down. It can get very tight without being restrictive. It’s nice that it grows with them in terms of size and you don’t have to buy multiple sizes like other velcro swaddles.
Of all the swaddle type blanket things that are out there (I’ve tried quite a few), I’d definitely recommend this one because it’s buttery soft, easy to use, and is one size.
There’s a lot of pacifiers out there. Admittedly, Stella isn’t the biggest paci baby. At first she refused them altogether, but over time she will take them now. We tried this Ecopiggy Orthodontic Rubber Eco Pacifier.
I love that it’s made of completely natural and biodegradable rubber. It’s easy to clean and find because of the big rounded gripper on it.
Extra Crib Sheets
I pathetically have to admit that I only had one crib sheet when I first had Claire. Oops! How quickly I learned that having only or or two sheets was a big no no as we went through them quite often between spit up or blow outs.
I love these Petit Pehr Crib Sheets in grey for our neutral nursery. They’re 100% cotton and super soft.
Sturdy, Colorful Board Books
I’ve gone through a lot of books since having kids. I’ve learned that all books are not made the same.
I like sturdy books with good stories. I am picky about what books we keep around. If it doesn’t have a good message or won’t hold up under some chewing, I don’t need that on our shelf.
Being an English major, I adore these Baby Lit books. We got Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Classic stories made fun for little ones, but not so dumbed down that parents can’t enjoy them too. Win for all!
Plenty of Storage Bins
With an active toddler on the go, the last thing I need is our small not-always-baby-safe items to be disorganized. Cute bins and totes are always of good use in the nursery to stay organized and keep rooms looking neat and tidy.
Binxy Baby Shopping Cart Hammock
Oh, how I adore this thing! Really, if you have a toddler and a baby, this is high up on my list of must-haves.
Binxy Baby Shopping Cart Hammock as seen in use at Target
Shopping with two kids is not fun, let me tell you, but this makes it a lot more manageable. Trying to manuever a cart around with a wild toddler in the seat and then having your new infant in the carseat almost falling off the cart with every turn you make is not ideal (not speaking from experience here or anything…).
This is in my car at all times and will absolutely be a baby shower gift for anyone expecting a second (or beyond) baby.
All the items in this post can be found at BabyCubby.com. I had a great experience working with them and getting some of the products above. If you need anything for baby and want to support a smaller boutique retailer over a larger one, I’d definitely recommend them. They offer free shipping over $50 and a baby registry.
Questions for You:
- Been-there-done-that moms, what were your must-haves the second time around?
- If you could have any one baby item be adult sized, what would you pick? I want a DockAMom please!
