Now that Claire is a few months old (tear), we’ve broken in a lot of our baby registry items & found what really works for us.
People keep asking me what my favorite baby products are, so I’m going to start a series for our favorites based on age. This post will cover what we’ve been loving from 0-3 months. I’ll (try to) post an update of our favorites every three months or so.
I know I was so wildly confused when I was registering because there are so so many products out there and I had no idea what I really needed and what was just being marketed to me. Hopefully this can help some new moms/moms-to-be weed through all the products and find what is actually useful.
Fisher Price Baby Swing
Every parent of a newborn quickly realized that the baby swing is the holy grail of all baby products. I know very few babies who don’t like the swing. They pretty much all love it.
Look at 2 month old Claire – so small!
All swings are about the same too. We got this one for free from one of my coworkers. It’s actually an old discontinued model but still works great. Claire takes a morning nap in it daily.
Wubba Nub Pacifiers
Obviously, these things are everywhere, but they really are awesome! We tried several brands of pacifiers, but Claire will only take Soothie brand ones. The Wubba Nub paci is so smart because it helps it stay in place (at least a little better than a standalone one).
She is seldom seen without her beloved giraffe wubba. She is just starting to be able to hold onto it too. It’s so cute and she’s starting to learn that she can control it.
We are a little “wubsessed” over here and already have three. At this rate, by the time she is one we will have 12? It’s nice to have back ups, though, and one for the car.
SwaddleDesigns Swaddle Blankets
These are the best blankets! Claire is definitely a loves-to-be-swaddled baby, so these have been indispensable. They are so soft and great for many uses. We use them for swaddling of course, but also for covering the stroller/car seat, covering up while nursing, & laying on the floor for playtime.
I also got some Aiden & Anais swaddles but prefer this brand by far. They are softer and hold a swaddle much better in my opinion.
HoMedics Sound Machine
Another thing pretty much all babies like is white noise or sound. Sleeping in complete silence is actually really awkward to them since it was so noisy in the womb. We have used this since day one and Claire loves it.
I love this particular model because it has a plug but can also be battery operated. We take this in the car if she is fussing bad when we need to go somewhere. We used it on our road trip too and it was awesome.
Munchkin Light-My-Way Nightlight
This was a random thing I just threw on my registry and didn’t think much about, but I’m so glad we go it. This thing is our FAVORITE! We have gotten so much use out of it.
While Claire was still in our room, it was perfect to turn on and check on her or do a quick feed in the middle of the night. Now that she’s in her room, we use this light when she wakes up for feeds at night so we don’t completely wake her up with a bright light to make putting her down after easier.
Carter’s Just One You Burp Cloths
One thing I seriously underestimated was how many burp cloths we would be going through. I think it only took me a week before I was like, we need way more of these.
They’re carried at Target, super soft, and I love the cute designs.
Graco Pace Connect Travel System Stroller
This may be my favorite baby item of the ones listed here.
I was all about getting out as soon as Claire was born. This stroller is super easy to fold and lift into the car and very functional while out. The fact that it’s a travel system and you just plop the car seat into it is great. Then I don’t have to mess with getting her in and out of anything when she is most likely sleeping.
I have a jogging stroller, but this one is my “car stroller” because the jogging one is a little too big to get in and out of the car all the time. I just leave this one in-car so I always have it for on the go.
Skip Hop Activity Gym
Although Claire is just starting to look at and bat at the toys, we have used this play gym since week one. Tummy time is really important to help develop head/neck/back strength that will help them crawl later on.
We try to put her down on the mat a few times a day on both her back and front. Right now, she can lay there and play for about 15 minutes and enjoy herself. I know this will probably be her favorite very soon.
Carter’s Zip-Up Sleep & Play Pajamas
Carter’s brand seems to fit Claire the best (long and thin). I love these because they ZIP. I am so done with all the snaps!
All her newborn clothes was mostly the snap kind. No sleep deprived parent of a newborn has time for snaps. Zipper all the way! These are soft and have lasted through many washes and of course, are adorable.
Pottery Barn Kids Stroller Blanket
No doubt, we got lots of baby blankets, but I think everyone needs a really soft & high quality blanket. This is that blanket for us. The fleece is so incredibly soft even after washing. I keep it with us at all times for the car seat or stroller.
Some really nice-to-have extras (but not essentials) that I’ve been loving are…
Brica Bath Kneeler Pad – I bathe Claire every night now as part of our bedtime routine. Our sink is too small to fit the tub we have, so I put her tub in the bathtub and kneel down to bathe her. I was rolling up a towel to save my knees, but when I found this at Baby’s R Us, I was sold. $13 well spent.
Johnson’s Hand & Face Wipes – Claire often spits up in the morning. I don’t want to give her two baths in one day, so these are nice to freshen her up and clean off that spit up smell. It’s also nice when her hands get sticky or just to use in between baths.
Fisher Price Soothe & Glow Seahorse – I knew about this product from when I was a nanny. All the kids I watched basically needed this thing to fall asleep to. Claire has started to associate it with bedtime since that’s when we turn it on. It does actually help her get back to sleep & the music is cute.
Next up, I’ll be sharing some baby items that I didn’t really think were necessary or just didn’t work out for us. I’ll also be reviewing my cloth diapers pretty soon.
