Happy Friday! I hope the first week of the new year has gone well for you. Despite being very low on sleep this week, it was a good week for me. My diet has actually been going great and I’ve had no slip ups!
I haven’t done one of these posts since Claire was REALLY little. I read that post now and don’t even know who that baby was! I like how Heather did one the other day and one of my friend’s requested I write a recent one (hi, Shannon!). I’m also kind of dry on blog topics these days, so here’s what a day in my life is like.
This is from yesterday, Thursday, January 7th.
A Day In the Life
4:00 AM – get up for the 3rd time in the same night for Claire. She is screaming like crazy out of no where. I think she is teething again. I go in, nurse her, and come back to bed.
5:20 AM – she is already up again. I’m in a super bad mood right now because I never actually went back to sleep from the last time I got up. I let her fuss for a while because it’s just too early to get up.
5:45 AM – go get Claire and get up with my husband. I put Claire in her high chair and give her some puffs to munch on while we make breakfast.
My husband and I have banana nut oatmeal and take turns feeding her peach puree baby food before he leaves for work.
7:00 AM – It’s just Claire and I now until 5 PM. I set Claire on her play mat in the living room with her toys while I get on the computer to start writing this post (or I’ll never remember!). I check Facebook, my email, and update twitter with a depressing mom status.

Claire doesn’t stay on the play mat and crawls over to our shoes by the door, which are her favorite toy right now. Oy…
7:00 – 7:45 AM – I clip my nails, start a load of Claire’s laundry, tidy my bedroom & make the bed while Claire plays on the floor. I reheat my coffee for the first time (let’s see how many times this is done in one day).
Claire starts getting into something she shouldn’t and when I take her away she has a meltdown. I know that means it’s nap time already! I nurse & rock her to sleep.
8-9 AM – Claire naps. I normally take this time to work out but I was hoping to try a new gym today once she get up, so I opt for some quiet time instead. I do the dishes to get that out of the way, reheat coffee again, light a candle, and read Jesus Calling and journal. This is a glorious, rare morning hour for me.
9 AM – Claire gets up. This is a short nap for her. She usually naps and hour and half to two hours in the AM, but I am ready anyway since I want to try out the Y here in town. I change her diaper, get her dressed, and get in my workout clothes.
We’re ready to go!
9:30 AM – we leave the house (yes, it took that long for us to get out the door!). I give her a bottle as we drive.
9:36 AM – we get to the Y, I drop her off in the child watch area. She doesn’t seem phased that I’m leaving her. I head to the weight room.
9:45 – 10:45 AM – I do a lower body lifting work out. I thought I was going to do some at-home strength + running for a workout this month but it’s just too hard with Claire always interrupting/crawling on me as I work out.
I want to do this Jamie Eason LiveFit trainer 12 week program, but I need a gym. Hence the Y.
Killing my legs
Legs only takes me about 25 minutes, so I go ahead and do another workout, mostly biceps, for a full hour of lifting.
10:50 AM – I go get Claire. The lady in child watch says she did great. She doesn’t even seem phased that I am back. I realize that hardcore arms workouts in conjunction with picking up my 16 pound baby is not the best idea 😉
11 AM – We get back home. I nurse Claire, thinking she might want an early nap, but she’s not ready yet. We both each lunch. She eats some yogurt puffs & noodles and I eat a ricotta penne meatball pasta recipe from the Flat Belly Diet book that I prepped earlier this week.
11:30 AM – I finally take a shower. I haaate taking a shower this late in the morning, but whatev. Claire is in the walker outside the shower in the bathroom babbling to me the whole time.
11:50 AM – Claire goes down for nap number two. She nurses, then babbles for about 10 minutes before she falls asleep on her own. This seems to be her new trend for naps.
12-1:30 PM – I get dressed, dry my hair, chat with Becky, make more updates to this post, and chill on the couch with Beans. I read blogs until Claire gets up.
1:30-4:30 PM – Claire is up. We have a snack – steamed carrots for her and pineapple/cottage cheese for me. I try baby jail for the first time to keep this girl contained.
It actually worked for longer than I thought it would. While she hung out in there, I cleaned both the bathrooms and wrote a few emails.
4:30 PM – Claire gets super fussy. From 4-6 is just not a good time of day for her usually. I put her in her crib to see if she’ll nap.
She’s been taking late naps lately, which I’m fine with because no matter how much she sleeps or doesn’t sleep during the day, she still doesn’t sleep at night. She thankfully takes a little cat nap.
5 – 6 PM – Hubby gets home. I quickly hand off Claire and run away. Just kidding 😉 But some days that’s what I want to do!
He gets settled, takes Claire when she wakes up for a while. We all sit on the couch and play together for a long time and I don’t even realize how late it’s gotten. She normally goes to bed at 6 or 6:30.
7 PM – Feed Claire dinner. She tried eggs for the first time and liked them. My husband gets her in her jammies and then hands her off to me. I nurse her and she’s out in her crib.
7:45 PM – We eat dinner. It’s very odd for us to be eating this late, as we usually eat more around 6 or 6:30 after Claire is in bed. I made a Greek Lemon Chicken dish that ends up not being that good, so no need for a pic.
8:30 PM – We clean up the kitchen and then head to bed. We go to bed super early these days and have no shame!
And that was yesterday!
Questions for You:
- If you stay home with kids, what thing can you not stand to do? Mine is totally showering late.
- What was your workout yesterday?
