Today actually marks the end of my first trimester, as I am 14 weeks today! It’s really crazy how these 3 months have flown by but also seemed like such a long time to wait to tell everyone!
I found out I was pregnant at the beginning of August, at 4 weeks. The first few weeks were decent other than the fact that I was totally exhausted. I was still doing long runs and training for a half. The first real symptom I had of being pregnant was crazy tiredness and being super slow on my runs. I had just gotten my Garmin, so I was paying attention to my time a lot more. All the sudden, I’d be running like an 11:30 minute mile, versus my normal 9:30-10. I felt very slow and after some long runs, I had to come home and take a nap from pure exhaustion. It was very odd to me since I didn’t yet know.
As soon as I found out, it made a lot more sense! I started getting “morning sickness” (which FYI, never happens in the morning for me, lol) at 6 weeks or so. From weeks 6-10, I was basically permanently nauseated all day, no matter what. I never actually got sick, but I had to eat to make the nausea go away.
The past few weeks from 10-12 were pretty good and I started feeling a little more “normal” again. But just this week, I have had nausea worse than ever. I actually started gagging and was convinced I was going to throw up, but still haven’t gotten sick yet. I’ve heard that nausea can come right in the first few weeks, subside, and then come back with a vengeance. So I think that’s exactly what’s happening to me.
So far, my general symptoms have been:
- crazy exhaustion
- nausea but not getting sick
- really strong smells, like I can smell trash a mile away
- really bad lower back ache
- some really weird/vivid dreams
Other than the morning sickness picking up this week, it really hasn’t been too bad at all. This is all new to me, though, so I definitely don’t feel like “myself” anymore.
14 Week Update
I’m going to try weekly updates in a survey style like most preggo bloggers and see how I like it. Here’s me earlier this week at the gym, finally with a little bump!
How I’m feeling: Pretty tired. Last week I went to bed at 8:30 every night and slept about 10 hours a night! The nausea has gotten bad enough this week that it’s interfered with my work, which really stinks. I hope it subsides soon!
Weight gain: maybe 3 pounds? I don’t get on the scale that often.
Maternity Clothes: at first this was a huge struggle for me. I have been wearing maternity pants since 9 weeks! My work pants were just so form fitted that if I gained a pound they wouldn’t fit. A co-worker just gave me all her leftover maternity clothes though, so I am all set. I will share some of the awesome stuff she gave me soon!
Sleep: Sleep has been hit or miss. Some nights, I can sleep 10+ hours and it feels great. Other nights, I can’t get comfortable. I also sleep on my stomach, so I know that’s going to get harder/impossible soon.
Fitness: I am not running at all. This is why I made some fitness changes and didn’t run my half marathon. I am honestly just too exhausted to run right now. It saps me of all my energy and my runs are very low-energy and not motivating. Running also just started to “not feel right,” so I decided to do other workouts. I am open to starting running again, but have a feeling running through this pregnancy may not be for me.
When I feel like being active, I am though. I am totally digging power walks lately. However, for some reason, any time I’ve done strength training in the past 2 weeks, I’ve pulled something. I’m not using heavy weights or anything. I’m hoping I get some more energy soon and can have a more regular workout schedule.
Gender: We actually found out already via a blood test at 12 weeks. I had no idea they could do that! I will be sharing baby bee’s gender soon, but I’d love to hear your guesses 🙂
Craving: cheez-its, salty stuff, CARBS like none other. Cereal, bread, crackers make me feel a lot better.
Food aversions: veggies do not sound good at all lately, coffee makes me more nauseous and just doesn’t sound good most days
Missing: pumpkin beer! and coffee
Most looking forward to: meeting this little one! Getting started on the nursery. And hopefully getting a little more energy in the 2nd trimester!
